Night Sky Photography Outing

The event will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 11:45 PM to 11:59 PM.

Actually it will start at 11:59pm on Saturday, and end about 2am Sunday morning, but the website program didn't understand that...

Although It will be 'pretty dark' by 10pm,  the core of the Milky Way doesn't get to its peak until around 2am. Optimal milky way conditions would be between 1am and 3am.
Then we walk across the field south of the farm house. We get to a really nice spot due south of the farm house, It is about 1/8th of a mile on grass - and we will be there with other creatures. This spot is great for capturing star-trails right above the farm house.
Star-trails take a while. Those with a lot of patience should show up earlier to allow for more time for the trails to get long.

At about 1.15am we will pack up and go back to the cars. We take a left from Camp Linden Rd on to Wawaset Rd and continue up Wawaset Rd for about 0.5 miles. There is a small spot with room for a couple of cars. Excess cars can park along the road.
From there we walk up the hill to the west of the road (on the left side relative to where we came from). This walk is also on grass, and we go up a steep, big hill, on un-even terrain, loaded up with camera, tripod, headlamp....
Once we reach the top we will have the other side of the farm-house due south, - right under the Milky Way! There we will take our Milky Way pictures, and then head home to get some rest :~)

Svenne Juul and Ginia Apostolacus will be leading this outing.  They will cover this itinerary during the meeting on May 14 so that those who join understand that getting the images will require some real effort.
