For a change of pace, we will visit the Akshardham Temple in Robbinsville , New Jersey.  The spectacular campus is open to all. It is a landmark of Hindu Culture, Architecture and Spirituality.

We will plan to arrive at 10am and meet up outside under the big golden statue of Bhagwan Swaminarayan (you can't miss it!) for a group shot. Then we will head inside the Visitor Center to watch a short orientation film. After that, all will be on their own to explore the various buildings and statuary both inside and out. Photography is allowed in many areas, but not all. Two of the larger buildings are designated as sacred spaces where photography is not permitted, as visitors may be engaged in prayer inside. Visitors are also asked to remove their shoes before entering these areas as a sign of respect and to help maintain the cleanliness and sanctity of the space. Although photography is not allowed, these two temples are not to be missed—the ornate architecture, murals, intricate artistry, and sacred sculptures are truly spectacular.  There are many excellent photo opportunities throughout the areas where photography is permitted, including the grand exterior architecture, beautifully landscaped gardens, reflecting pools, and intricate stone carvings.

We will meet for lunch at 12:30 in the Shayona Café, a highlight of the visit. This spacious, beautifully run café offers a wide variety of authentic vegetarian Indian dishes—perfect for both newcomers and seasoned food lovers.

There are strict dress code guidelines; all participants should review these in advance on the temple’s website. Check out their website to see what you can expect. There is no admission fee, however, donations are welcomed and there are numerous donation boxes throughout.

Tripods are not allowed. Carpool information to come.
