Chinese New Year in Philly Outing

Photo

The event will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

We hope you can join us on Saturday, February 21st for a chance to photograph the colorful festivities of the season. The plan is to take Septa into Jefferson Station and walk a few blocks to Chinatown. There we can practice our street photography skills on the decorations, costumes, store windows and denizens of the neighborhood. If that isn’t enough, we can walk the few blocks to Reading Terminal Market where we can shoot and maybe grab something to munch on. Want more? We can photograph inside Jefferson Station before taking the train back. It truly is a cornucopia of photo opportunities.  Please note that if you want to witness the annual parade, that takes place a few days earlier, on Tues, Feb 17. We opted to avoid the crowds, and experience the week-long festivities, decorations, and people on Saturday the 21st.

We can meet at the Malvern train station to take the 9:38AM train into the city and get off at Jefferson Station. Of course, you can take a different train or drive in on your own if that works best for you. Just try to meet the group at the Chinatown Friendship Arch on 10th St just off of Arch St at 11:00. The photo is of that amazing arch taken some years ago by Mayra Talunas.

Please, let Jim Wilson know if you are going to go, and if you will be joining us on the train in Malvern.
